A note from behind the briefcase

WHO WE ARE.HI, I’M GWEN.

Cocktail lover. Product builder.
The person behind the briefcase.

Well, if you really want to know, Barwear is just me — and the Mixologists’ Briefcase is my creation.

It came from a love of cocktails and the pure joy I get from creating things. I built the original with my own two hands in 2018 because I wanted to take my drinks with me. I’ve been using and abusing it ever since.

I love to travel, make drinks and bring a little of my home bar along for the ride.

01 / A little bio

A MAKER,
FIRST.

The spark was a friend who wanted to make a drinks kit out of a thrift-store briefcase. My first thought was, Well, I can do better.

I had a stash of walnut scraps under my desk and thought, I can make something cool with all this. A love of cocktails, a pile of wood and the urge to make something of my own — that’s how the original briefcase began.

I’m a little shy and would normally prefer to let the product do the talking. But there’s a person behind it, and a lifetime of learning how to make things.

I build products for a living at a friendly neighborhood tech company. I’ve spent more than a decade professionally building models and prototypes, with hands-on experience in manufacturing and design.

There are no shortcuts or guarantees in bringing a product to life. I believe in the Mixologists’ Briefcase, and I’m working diligently to give it — and the people supporting it — the care it deserves.

02 / The not-so-straight path

MAKING IT
IS ONLY PART
OF THE STORY.

Everywhere I take the briefcase, people want one. That’s what made me think about selling it: something I’d made for myself could be something other people would love, too.

I tried to get Barwear off the ground in 2020. Then life happened. I got busy. And, honestly, I was a little afraid to fail.

I knew how to make things, but bringing a product to life on my own felt monumental. I was overwhelmed and didn’t know how to move forward. That’s the honest part of this story — it hasn’t been a straight line from making the briefcase to sharing it with the world.

Now I’m working on prototype 2. Years of using the original have taught me a few things. As a maker, I can see ways to make it better: aiming for a lighter, more durable briefcase, and refining the details that make it a pleasure to bring along. It’s still a work in progress, shaped by real use.

03 / Why Barwear?

THE STYLISH WAY
TO DRESS YOUR BAR.

That’s the idea behind the name: a little play on what you wear. I think of Barwear as an addition to your attire: a dressed-up, slightly sexy accessory that just happens to bring the bar.

Walk into a party with it and the message is simple: I’ve got the drinks handled. Now the party can start.

The briefcase is solid walnut. I want this to be a premium product, not something to replace after a season. My goal is to make a piece you can enjoy, care for and pass down through generations.

It’s also for people who love to entertain without having a lot of room. A studio or a small home can still have a home bar. Maybe even a camper — an idea to explore as the final dimensions and design take shape.

And those drinks don’t have to contain alcohol. Cocktails or alcohol-free creations — the fun is in making something good and bringing a little style to the occasion.

04 / Away from the desk

GOOD DRINKS.
DIFFERENT PLACES.

I like to travel and make drinks — on camping trips, on ski trips, or just on an afternoon at the park. It doesn’t have to be a big occasion.

01 / CAMPING

Once camp is set.

A change of pace, a place to settle in, and time to make a drink.

02 / SKI TRIPS

After the last run.

The skiing is done for the day. Time to put the boots aside and make something good.

03 / AT THE PARK

No big trip required.

Sometimes getting away is just finding a spot at the park for the afternoon.

05 / Same idea, two companions

BRING YOUR BAR.
PLAN YOUR POUR.

Barwear is the physical briefcase. BarVault is its digital companion for keeping track of bottles and discovering cocktails. Two parts of the same love of making a good drink.
